Rooted & Restored: A Women's Wellness Retreat for Black and Latina Women Ready to Heal

Aug 24
6 min read

Rooted in Strength. Restored in Purpose.

There is a particular kind of exhaustion that comes from being strong for too long.

It can look like showing up for your children, your family, your work, your faith community, and everyone who needs you, while quietly wondering when there will be room for you. It can look like functioning on the outside and feeling completely depleted on the inside. It can look like survival mode becoming so familiar that rest starts to feel undeserved.

But you do not have to earn rest.

You do not have to wait until you are falling apart to receive support. And you do not have to navigate healing alone.

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, Daughters of Both Suns will host Rooted & Restored: A Women’s Wellness Retreat at The Overlook at Ocean Club Resort, 1908 N Ocean Blvd, North Myrtle Beach, SC. From 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM EDT, Black and Latina women will have an intentional space to pause, reconnect, learn, and begin restoring the parts of themselves that have been placed on hold.

This is not about pretending everything is fine.

It is about building from the ground up.

A Retreat Designed for the Whole Woman

Healing does not happen in separate compartments. Mental health affects the body. Stress can shape our relationships, sleep, confidence, and physical health. Cultural expectations, racial inequities, caregiving responsibilities, financial pressure, and past trauma can all influence how we experience wellness.

So Rooted & Restored centers three connected pathways:

  • Mind: Mental health education, emotional wellness, reflection, and practical tools for navigating stress and healing.

  • Body: Women’s health education, wellness experiences, nourishment, and self-care activities.

  • Spirit: Purpose, identity, connection, grounding, and the deeper work of remembering who you are beyond what you do for others.

Black and Latina women deserve wellness spaces where their lived experiences are not treated like side notes. We deserve support that recognizes culture, community, family systems, faith, language, history, and the realities of systemic barriers.

That is the heart of this retreat.

We are not asking women to shrink their stories to fit into a program. We are creating room for the full story.

There is no perfect way to participate. You can engage fully, take quiet moments, or move through the day at your own pace.

Why Culturally Responsive Wellness Matters

Too many women have been told, directly or indirectly, to push through.

Push through the grief. Push through the anxiety. Push through the postpartum depression. Push through the discrimination. Push through the family expectations. Push through the medical system that did not listen. Push through the financial stress. Push through the trauma.

That advice has consequences.

When support is not culturally responsive, women may feel misunderstood, misdiagnosed, dismissed, or pressured to separate their mental health from the environments they are navigating. But context matters. Culture matters. Language matters. Safety matters.

At Daughters of Both Suns, we believe care should honor the whole person. Our work is rooted in trauma-informed practices, bilingual support, community connection, and equity. We know that individual healing can become a catalyst for healthier families, stronger communities, and systems that better serve the people most affected by inequity.

Rooted & Restored is one part of that larger mission.

It is a day to cut the noise, cut the shame, and make space for what is real.

You are allowed to want more than survival.

An Accessible Invitation to Invest in Yourself

We believe cost should not be the reason someone misses an opportunity for healing and connection. Tickets are available at several levels:

  • Early Bird Admission: $25

  • General Admission: $35

  • VIP Admission: $50

  • Scholarship Tickets: Free, application required

Scholarship tickets are limited and subject to availability. If finances are tight, please apply. Needing support is not a personal failure. It is a reality many people face, and equity means creating pathways that acknowledge that reality.

You can also learn more about the retreat through Daughters of Both Suns.

Healing Does Not Have to Wait for October

An in-person retreat can be powerful, but not everyone can travel, take time off, arrange childcare, or feel ready to enter a room full of people. Access matters. That is why virtual education and support are equally important to our work.

We also invite you to explore the virtual workshop:

Closing the Gap: From Pregnancy to Possibility

This virtual workshop focuses on maternal health equity, culturally responsive care, community support, advocacy, and the systems that shape outcomes for mothers, babies, and families.

Pregnancy and postpartum experiences are not the same for everyone. Black and Latina women often face disproportionate barriers to quality care, consistent support, and positive maternal health outcomes. What happens when we stop treating those disparities as inevitable? What becomes possible when families are informed, supported, heard, and connected to resources?

Closing the Gap: From Pregnancy to Possibility creates space for those conversations.

The workshop is relevant for:

  • Expecting parents

  • New parents and caregivers

  • Healthcare professionals

  • Social workers and community health workers

  • Mental health professionals

  • Educators and students

  • Community advocates

  • Anyone committed to maternal and family wellness

Whether you join us in person at Rooted & Restored or participate virtually from home, your next step can still matter.

Support Beyond the Event

A retreat or workshop can open a door, but healing often requires ongoing support. Daughters of Both Suns is here to help you identify what comes next.

Through BridgeCare Therapy Navigation, we help Black and Latina women connect with culturally responsive licensed therapists. Depending on availability, care may include insurance-based providers, sliding-scale options, pro bono therapy, or limited session support.

Our Healing Circles and Workshops offer trauma-informed spaces for reflection, education, connection, and shared growth. You do not have to have the right words. You can listen. You can participate. You can simply be present.

Through Resource Navigation, our team provides personalized, bilingual support connecting individuals and families to mental health care, healthcare, housing, food assistance, reproductive and maternal health services, immigration legal assistance, income support, autism resources, and more.

Community resource navigation and support for women and families

Healing is not just about mindset. Sometimes healing requires safe housing, reliable food, healthcare access, financial stability, and someone willing to help you navigate the next step.

That is why we do this work from the ground up.

If You Need Immediate Crisis Support

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, feeling overwhelmed, or need immediate emotional support, you can contact Crisis Text Line at any time.

Text DAUGHTERS to 741741 for free, confidential crisis support.

A trained volunteer Crisis Counselor can help you move through a difficult moment at your own pace and connect you with additional resources. Support is also available through Daughters of Both Suns’ crisis support page.

If you are in immediate danger or need urgent medical assistance, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Root Yourself in What Is Possible

We do not break every time life gets hard.

Sometimes we bend. Sometimes we rest. Sometimes we need someone to help us find our way back to solid ground.

Rooted & Restored is an invitation to do exactly that: to pause long enough to hear yourself, connect with community, gather resources, and remember that your well-being is not extra. It is essential.

Your healing matters.

Your body matters.

Your purpose matters.

Join us on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM EDT at The Overlook at Ocean Club Resort in North Myrtle Beach.

Or take a virtual next step with Closing the Gap: From Pregnancy to Possibility.

Move at your own pace. Start where you are.

Together, we are rooted in strength and restored in purpose.
